About This Course
The application-oriented optometry virtual course spans 12 months, with each month dedicated to a specific module. The course is designed to focus on practical aspects of optometry clinical procedures, enabling participants to develop hands-on skills and proficiency. Each module consists of three 1-hour sessions, providing a comprehensive learning experience throughout the year. Additionally, at the conclusion of each module, there will be a Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) based assessment to evaluate participants' understanding and retention of the course material.
Objectives of the course
At the completion of this course the participant will be able to:
- 1) To enhance trainees’ proficiency in applying optometry clinical procedures accurately, following best clinical practices
- 2) To enhance trainees’ understanding of utilizing appropriate techniques and tools for various clinical procedures
- 3) To enhance trainees’ skills in recognizing the appropriate scenarios and conditions that necessitate specific optometry clinical procedures.

Meet the Instructors
Dr. Avinash Pathengay
The LVPEI ‘Just A Minute (JAM) clinical pearls’ (emailer - digital learning) in Ophthalmology and Optometry that have received a phenomenal response globally from the eye care fraternity are his brainchild. He has conceptualized many other innovative learning tools, and the LVPEI education training programs and collaborations have been further strengthened with a strong digital component under his leadership. Associated with LVPEI since 2001, he has played an integral role in establishing the retina services at the institute’s GMR Varalakshmi Campus in Visakhapatnam. Dr. Pathengay is a co-founder of RETNETINDIA, a group with over 950 retinal surgeons in India. He has to his credit more than 100 presentations in both international and national conferences and 147 peer-reviewed publications and has authored 9 chapters in various textbooks. He was honored as the Outstanding International Scholar by the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, USA, and was recently ranked as an expert (second position) in endophthalmitis by the Expertscape Daily Experts. He has also received several awards for his presentations at forums such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Asia Pacific Ophthalmological Society and World Ophthalmology Congress.
Ms. Snigdha
Ms. Snigdha hails from the city of Patna, Bihar. She completed her BS Optometry from Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry in 2006. Intrigued by the concepts of management, she pursued her Master's in Business Administration from IBS — Gurgaon (2008-10). Her area of interest and work is in the education sector. She is presently the Network Associate Director for Standard Chartered — LVPEI Academy for Eye Care Education. Lead strategy, planning, execution of global training programmes [including digital education & research initiatives], develop and harness national and international collaborations, advocacy & brand development are her present responsibilities.
Dr. Ruby Kala Prakasam
Dr. Ruby Kala Prakasam, a distinguished optometrist, earned her Optometry Diploma at Christian Medical College, Vellore. She then joined LVPEI, undertaking a transformative fellowship from 2000 to 2002. During her tenure as a consultant optometrist at LVPEI, she demonstrated exceptional expertise in fitting specialized contact lenses. She pursued a master’s in optometry from the University of New South Wales and later earned a Ph.D., in corneal confocal imaging from the University of Rostock. Her contributions to international conferences and peer-reviewed journals have made a significant impact on the field. As a passionate educator, Ruby is actively involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate optometry students, and clinical tutors. Currently, her primary focus is on pioneering innovative optometry education tools and leading an online programme designed to benefit Indian optometrists. She also plays a pivotal role in educational research initiatives to advance the field of optometry education. Dr. Ruby Kala Prakasam's journey embodies excellence in optometry, spanning clinical proficiency, impactful research, and valuable contributions to education.
Mr. Srikanth Maseedupalli
Mr. Srikanth Maseedupalli, Head of Optometry Education and Ophthalmic Dispensing Training Programme at L V Prasad Eye Institute, has over twenty four years of eye care industry experience. His expertise in clinical training, ophthalmic dispensing, educational psychology, and game-based learning shapes eye care graduates' careers. With postgraduate degrees in Optometry and Human Resource Management, Mr. Srikanth's commitment to continuous learning is evident. He's a proponent of game-based learning, believing in its power to engage students, enhance retention, and foster a deeper understanding of complex optometrical concepts. Mr. Srikanth combines industry and academic experience to provide exceptional training, emphasizing lifelong learning and integrating educational psychology and game-based learning strategies into optometry education. He actively engages in research to advance optometry knowledge and practices. With dedication, leadership, passion towards educational psychology, and innovative use of game-based learning, Mr. Srikanth Maseedupalli continues to make a significant impact on optometry education and eye care practices.
Mr. Vijay Kumar Yelagondula
Mr. Vijay Kumar Yelagondula completed his bachelor’s in clinical optometry (B.Optom) from Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune. He was awarded a gold medal for best academic performance in the optometry programme. After his graduation, he took up a teaching faculty position at the Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry (BLSO), L V Prasad Eye Institute. Later, he pursued a Master of Health Services Management (MHSerMgt) from Griffith University, Australia, and a master’s degree in clinical optometry (M.Optom) from Chitkara University, India. He is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. programme at the City, University of London, UK. He teaches visual optics, optometric instrumentation, and occupational optometry subjects for undergraduate and postgraduate optometry students. In addition to this, he has vast experience in curriculum development, pedagogy, and organizing CMEs. He has a few peer-reviewed publications to his credit. His research interests include public eye health, barriers to seeking eyecare, peripheral refractions and myopia, and educational research.
Ms. Sethumathi Gouragari
Ms. Sethumathi from Hyderabad city, completed her BS Optometry from Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry (2002-2006), L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad (affiliated to Birla Institute of Technology and Science). She worked as clinical optometrist in Retina Department for 2 years at LVPEI, and during that period she completed her Masters in Business Administration (Human Resource Management) from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University. With good knowledge and clinical experience she moved to Anand Eye institute, Hyderabad, as Senior Optometrist and teaching faculty for Diploma in Optometry students, she also gained immense experience in the field of administration in diverse verticals within the profession of eye health. She is currently working as Administrator for Non-clinical training programmes at Standard Chartered-LVPEI Academy for Eyecare Education. And also heads the Ophthalmic Diagnostic Facility at BHIOVS, Kismatpur campus. She is actively involved in teaching and training in ophthalmic diagnostic heading programmes.
Mr. Sitharamanjaneyulu Madhukuri
Mr. Madhukuri Sitaramanjaneyulu has done a Vision Technician course from LVPEI's Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry in 2002 followed by a Diploma in Ophthalmic Techniques (DOT) from the Foundation of Ophthalmic & Optometry Research Education Centre (FOOREC). Graduated in Optometry from Chitkara University – Chandigarh and honoured with Award for academic excellence. He is a certified Ophthalmic Assistant from International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO), USA. He has also worked at Venkatalakshmi Eye Centre, Karamchedu, LVPEI Secondary Care Service Centre for 7 years. In 2009 he started working in the Smt. Kanuri Santhamma Centre for Vitreo Retinal Diseases at LVPEI Hyderabad. Currently, he is in charge of the Vision Technician programme and is also a faculty at Brien Holden Institute of Optometry & Vision Sciences (BHIOVS), LVPEI, and Optometry Consultant in LVPEI's Refractive Clinics.
Dr. Deepak Kumar Bagga
Dr. Deepak Kumar Bagga did his diploma in refraction and optometry from U. P. State Medical Faculty, Lucknow in 1998. This was followed by a two years fellowship in optometry from LVPEI Hyderabad. He then completed his Masters in Business Administration with specialization in Operations Management from the Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. He received his Ph.D. from School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Since 2007 he has been associated with LVPEI Hyderabad as a Consultant Optometrist. His clinical area of interest is – management of patients with low vision. He has rich and extensive experience of providing low vision services to more than 15,000 patients across all age groups with different ophthalmic conditions such as AMD, Albinism, Aniridia, Cone Dystrophy, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Heredo-macular Degeneration, Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, Microphthalmos, Optic Atrophy, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Retinopathy of prematurity, Rod Cone Dystrophy, Rod monochromatism, Stargardt's disease, Steven-Johnson Syndrome, and many more. His research interests lie in measuring impact of low vision on individual's participation and quality of life, and various contextual factors that may affect participation. He has presented results of his research work in various national and international conferences and has published over 12 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He received Amjad Rahi Prize for best poster presentation in clinical sciences category, in Indian Eye Research Group meeting ARVO India Chapter (2014).
Mr. Apoorv Sharma
Mr. Apoorv Sharma, joined L V Prasad Eye Institute in the year 2012 after completing Diploma in Optometry, B.Optom, and M.Optom. He gained a vast clinical experience in Optometry for 14 years. He won the best poster award in ARVO India in the year 2015. He has an honourable mention by ASCRS in the year 2017 for clinical photography, category “gonioscopy”. He has been working as a consulting optometrist and heading glaucoma and diagnostics services for the past 7 years. He is a passionate teacher actively involved in training and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate optometry students.
Mr. Sujoy Mukherjee
After completing his graduation from West Bengal University of Technology, Mr. Mukherjee did his comprehensive fellowship at LVPEI, Hyderabad. He later joined retina department at the institute’s Bhubaneswar campus. His basic research interests lie in electro-diagnostics, structural and functional correlation in diabetic retinopathy, retinal dystrophies and functional changes to detect early glaucoma. Mr. Mukherjee is actively involved in research activities and academic streamline.
Ms. Sushma Palla
Ms. Sushma Palla is currently working as an Optometry Clinical-In charge at Shirin Etian and Tara Brown - Brown Eye Centre at L V Prasad Eye Institute. She guides and mentors interns, technicians, and elevates eye care standards, making her a driving force in educational excellence and patient care. She is a graduate with Bachelors of Optometry and vision sciences from Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry (2015). She exemplifies lifelong learning and unwavering dedication. Her adaptability shines through effective communication, patient-centric care, and a remarkable clinical optometrist. Her journey celebrates her impact on the institution and the broader optometry landscape, echoing values of continuous learning, dedication, and progress.
Ms. Manali Sikder
Ms. Manali Sikder received her bachelor's degree in optometry and Vision Science from Vidyasagar College Of Optometry and Vision Science, MAKAUT and a Post-graduate Diploma in Optometry and Vision Sciences in paediatrics orthoptics and neuro optometry from Brien Holden Institute of Optometry and Vision Sciences (BHIOVS), L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad. Subsequently, Ms Manali joined LVPEI as a paediatric optometrist and orthoptics consultant. Her research interests include the study of pupils and neuroscience. She also has an interest in vision therapy for children with special needs.
Mr. Debanand Padhay
Mr. Debananda Padhay's academic credentials include, B.Sc. (Hons.) in Optometry and Ophthalmic Techniques under IGNOU, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, first division with distinction in 2014 and M Optom at Chitkara University, Chandigarh in 2017. Mr. Padhay has worked as an Adjunct Optometrist, Junior Optometrist and Assistant Optometrist in L V Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneswar. He is well trained in occupational optometry and community optometry. Mr. Padhay was actively involved in teaching, academic and research activities from 2012-2018. Mr. Padhay's achievements include Second prize in good clinical practice quiz competition in May 2015 at Bhubaneswar by Excel Life Science. He has presented Oral Paper at WCO Hyderabad from Sept 11-13, 2017 and Poster Presentation at IERG,Hyderabad 2016.
Ms. Sony Singh
After completing her Bachelor in Optometry from NSHM Knowledge Campus in 2014 she joined as an intern at LVPEI, Bhubaneswar and completed it successfully. To enhance her knowledge and interest in paediatrics and orthoptics she did a fellowship at LVPEI, Hyderabad in 2015. She has have worked as Consultant Optometrist at India vision institute for 1.5 years and since the past 6 years she have been working as Consultant Optometrist at LVPEI, Bhubaneswar in paediatrics and orthoptics clinic. She has also have attended many national seminars on orthoptics and myopia. Last year she took a session “Demystifying recent advancements in Amblyopia” at CL Gupta Eye Institute.

Mr. Srikanth Maseedupalli
Mr. Srikanth Maseedupalli, Head of Optometry Education and Ophthalmic Dispensing Training Programme at L V Prasad Eye Institute, has over twenty four years of eye care industry experience. His expertise in clinical training, ophthalmic dispensing, educational psychology, and game-based learning shapes eye care graduates' careers. With postgraduate degrees in Optometry and Human Resource Management, Mr. Srikanth's commitment to continuous learning is evident. He's a proponent of game-based learning, believing in its power to engage students, enhance retention, and foster a deeper understanding of complex optometrical concepts. Mr. Srikanth combines industry and academic experience to provide exceptional training, emphasizing lifelong learning and integrating educational psychology and game-based learning strategies into optometry education. He actively engages in research to advance optometry knowledge and practices. With dedication, leadership, passion towards educational psychology, and innovative use of game-based learning, Mr. Srikanth Maseedupalli continues to make a significant impact on optometry education and eye care practices.
Mr. Vijay Kumar Yelagondula
Mr. Vijay Kumar Yelagondula completed his bachelor’s in clinical optometry (B.Optom) from Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune. He was awarded a gold medal for best academic performance in the optometry programme. After his graduation, he took up a teaching faculty position at the Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry (BLSO), L V Prasad Eye Institute. Later, he pursued a Master of Health Services Management (MHSerMgt) from Griffith University, Australia, and a master’s degree in clinical optometry (M.Optom) from Chitkara University, India. He is currently enrolled in a Ph.D. programme at the City, University of London, UK. He teaches visual optics, optometric instrumentation, and occupational optometry subjects for undergraduate and postgraduate optometry students. In addition to this, he has vast experience in curriculum development, pedagogy, and organizing CMEs. He has a few peer-reviewed publications to his credit. His research interests include public eye health, barriers to seeking eyecare, peripheral refractions and myopia, and educational research.
Ms. Sethumathi Gouragari
Ms. Sethumathi from Hyderabad city, completed her BS Optometry from Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry (2002-2006), L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad (affiliated to Birla Institute of Technology and Science). She worked as clinical optometrist in Retina Department for 2 years at LVPEI, and during that period she completed her Masters in Business Administration (Human Resource Management) from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University. With good knowledge and clinical experience she moved to Anand Eye institute, Hyderabad, as Senior Optometrist and teaching faculty for Diploma in Optometry students, she also gained immense experience in the field of administration in diverse verticals within the profession of eye health. She is currently working as Administrator for Non-clinical training programmes at Standard Chartered-LVPEI Academy for Eyecare Education. And also heads the Ophthalmic Diagnostic Facility at BHIOVS, Kismatpur campus. She is actively involved in teaching and training in ophthalmic diagnostic heading programmes.
Mr. Sitharamanjaneyulu Madhukuri
Mr. Madhukuri Sitaramanjaneyulu has done a Vision Technician course from LVPEI's Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry in 2002 followed by a Diploma in Ophthalmic Techniques (DOT) from the Foundation of Ophthalmic & Optometry Research Education Centre (FOOREC). Graduated in Optometry from Chitkara University – Chandigarh and honoured with Award for academic excellence. He is a certified Ophthalmic Assistant from International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO), USA. He has also worked at Venkatalakshmi Eye Centre, Karamchedu, LVPEI Secondary Care Service Centre for 7 years. In 2009 he started working in the Smt. Kanuri Santhamma Centre for Vitreo Retinal Diseases at LVPEI Hyderabad. Currently, he is in charge of the Vision Technician programme and is also a faculty at Brien Holden Institute of Optometry & Vision Sciences (BHIOVS), LVPEI, and Optometry Consultant in LVPEI's Refractive Clinics.
Dr. Deepak Kumar Bagga
Dr. Deepak Kumar Bagga did his diploma in refraction and optometry from U. P. State Medical Faculty, Lucknow in 1998. This was followed by a two years fellowship in optometry from LVPEI Hyderabad. He then completed his Masters in Business Administration with specialization in Operations Management from the Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. He received his Ph.D. from School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Since 2007 he has been associated with LVPEI Hyderabad as a Consultant Optometrist. His clinical area of interest is – management of patients with low vision. He has rich and extensive experience of providing low vision services to more than 15,000 patients across all age groups with different ophthalmic conditions such as AMD, Albinism, Aniridia, Cone Dystrophy, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Heredo-macular Degeneration, Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, Microphthalmos, Optic Atrophy, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Retinopathy of prematurity, Rod Cone Dystrophy, Rod monochromatism, Stargardt's disease, Steven-Johnson Syndrome, and many more. His research interests lie in measuring impact of low vision on individual's participation and quality of life, and various contextual factors that may affect participation. He has presented results of his research work in various national and international conferences and has published over 12 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He received Amjad Rahi Prize for best poster presentation in clinical sciences category, in Indian Eye Research Group meeting ARVO India Chapter (2014).
Mr. Apoorv Sharma
Mr. Apoorv Sharma, joined L V Prasad Eye Institute in the year 2012 after completing Diploma in Optometry, B.Optom, and M.Optom. He gained a vast clinical experience in Optometry for 14 years. He won the best poster award in ARVO India in the year 2015. He has an honourable mention by ASCRS in the year 2017 for clinical photography, category “gonioscopy”. He has been working as a consulting optometrist and heading glaucoma and diagnostics services for the past 7 years. He is a passionate teacher actively involved in training and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate optometry students.
Mr. Sujoy Mukherjee
After completing his graduation from West Bengal University of Technology, Mr. Mukherjee did his comprehensive fellowship at LVPEI, Hyderabad. He later joined retina department at the institute’s Bhubaneswar campus. His basic research interests lie in electro-diagnostics, structural and functional correlation in diabetic retinopathy, retinal dystrophies and functional changes to detect early glaucoma. Mr. Mukherjee is actively involved in research activities and academic streamline.
Ms. Sushma Palla
Ms. Sushma Palla is currently working as an Optometry Clinical-In charge at Shirin Etian and Tara Brown - Brown Eye Centre at L V Prasad Eye Institute. She guides and mentors interns, technicians, and elevates eye care standards, making her a driving force in educational excellence and patient care. She is a graduate with Bachelors of Optometry and vision sciences from Bausch and Lomb School of Optometry (2015). She exemplifies lifelong learning and unwavering dedication. Her adaptability shines through effective communication, patient-centric care, and a remarkable clinical optometrist. Ms. Manali Sikder
Ms. Manali Sikder received her bachelor's degree in optometry and Vision Science from Vidyasagar College Of Optometry and Vision Science, MAKAUT and a Post-graduate Diploma in Optometry and Vision Sciences in paediatrics orthoptics and neuro optometry from Brien Holden Institute of Optometry and Vision Sciences (BHIOVS), L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad. Subsequently, Ms Manali joined LVPEI as a paediatric optometrist and orthoptics consultant. Her research interests include the study of pupils and neuroscience. She also has an interest in vision therapy for children with special needs.
Mr. Debanand Padhay
Mr. Debananda Padhay's academic credentials include, B.Sc. (Hons.) in Optometry and Ophthalmic Techniques under IGNOU, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, first division with distinction in 2014 and M Optom at Chitkara University, Chandigarh in 2017. Mr. Padhay has worked as an Adjunct Optometrist, Junior Optometrist and Assistant Optometrist in L V Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneswar. He is well trained in occupational optometry and community optometry. Mr. Padhay was actively involved in teaching, academic and research activities from 2012-2018. Mr. Padhay's achievements include Second prize in good clinical practice quiz competition in May 2015 at Bhubaneswar by Excel Life Science. He has presented Oral Paper at WCO Hyderabad from Sept 11-13, 2017 and Poster Presentation at IERG,Hyderabad 2016.
Ms. Sony Singh
After completing her Bachelor in Optometry from NSHM Knowledge Campus in 2014 she joined as an intern at LVPEI, Bhubaneswar and completed it successfully. To enhance her knowledge and interest in paediatrics and orthoptics she did a fellowship at LVPEI, Hyderabad in 2015. She has have worked as Consultant Optometrist at India vision institute for 1.5 years and since the past 6 years she have been working as Consultant Optometrist at LVPEI, Bhubaneswar in paediatrics and orthoptics clinic. She has also have attended many national seminars on orthoptics and myopia. Last year she took a session “Demystifying recent advancements in Amblyopia” at CL Gupta Eye Institute.
